- Hi guys -
-
- I have been using a 2-year old internal 14.4 Best fax modem -
- Windows 95, Dial-Up Networking (DUN), Exchange, Netscape, the works
- - for the last two years, and since Win95 came out last Fall,
- without a hitch.
-
- When I haven't been using the Windows 95 DUN dialer, I have on
- occasion used Netcom's proprietary little 16-bit dialer, called
- "Netcruiser," to access my internet account, and ProComm 2.11
- for random BBS access - both, ALSO successfully.
-
- I am posting this morning through my Netcruiser dialer, because
- about two weeks ago, while dialing through Windows 95 DUN, before
- the modem could engage, I got an error message saying that the
- computer couldn't communicate with the modem (or wasn't connected
- to the modem - words to that effect), and to "turn off the modem,
- then turn it back on."
-
- For two weeks I've tried tweaking everything - physically removing
- the internal modem and then doing the install wizard (which,
- incidentally, Windows 95, now, will NOT recognize... although it
- did before, groan); removing and completely reinstalling DUN
- (paying excruciating attention to the gigamillion folders, sub-
- folders, sub-sub-folders and sub-sub-sub-folders necessary to
- set up this convoluted dialer, and all of its numerous other
- pockets, folders, icons, and other hiding places for information
- concerning the settings for one's modem); virus checking; scan
- disc-ing --- in short, exhausting every way DUN may be looking
- at my modem.
-
- Meanwhile, as long as I am not using DUN, she works great. She
- tests in the diagnostic great. She "works properly" in the System
- Device register.
-
- Ugggh. Two weeks later, I have come to the experts.
-
- Has my modem died? Is some other god-forsaken component of the
- Windows 95 registry corrupted?
-
- Must I, gulp, reinstall Windows 95?
-
- Buy a new modem?
-
- I just can't believe it's a hardware problem - but I can't figure
- out where the #@%@!@*!!%^#$@% Windows 95 has corrupted itself.
-
- I'm desperate because I just bought WinFaxPro 7.0 to send faxes,
- and . . . it won't work because DUN is not functional!
-
- Help?
